Conventions

Navigating Menus

The following convention is used to specify menu navigation. The more complicated navigations will become self-evident when you actually do them. Examples:

File | Open Open the File menu and select Open.
Edit | Block Operations | Indent Open the Edit menu, select Block Operations, another menu will pop out, select Indent.
Tools | Customize | User Interface Open the Tools menu, select Customize, the Customize dialog will open, select User Interface on the left side tree.
Tools | Customize | General | Keys/Commands Open the Tools menu, select Customize, the Customize dialog will open, select General on the left side tree (very top), then click on the Keys/Commands button on the right side.
Tools | Customize | General | Filename Extensions – ‘Edit’ Open the Tools menu, select Customize, the Customize dialog will open, select General on the left side tree (very top), then click on the Filename Extensions button on the right side. Select a file extension and click ‘Edit’.
Tools | Customize | Files | Autosave – “Do Not Autosave Unnamed Files” Open the Tools menu, select Customize, the Customize dialog will open, select Files on the left side tree, open that section of the tree and select Autosave. Then check or uncheck the box for “Do Not Autosave Unnamed Files”.

Keys

Examples:

Ctrl+F9 – Hold the 'Ctrl' key down while pressing the 'F9' function key.

Alt+K – Hold the 'Alt' key down while pressing the 'K' key.

Ctrl+Shift+Up – Hold the 'Ctrl' key and the 'Shift' key down while pressing the 'Up arrow' key.

Key/Command Assignments

In this manual when a keystroke is stated to invoke a certain command, it is assumed that the default CUA Command Map is being used. If you are using a different Command Map, see the section Modifying A Command Map which explains how to determine what keystrokes are assigned to what commands.

Dialogs

In this manual the names of dialogs are underlined. Dialog names are displayed in the dialog title bar. Example: The Edit Filename Extension Setup dialog.

Buttons you click are in curly single quotes. Example: Click the ‘Compiler/Program Setup’ button.

Section Names

When referring to other sections in the manual, the section name is italic and underlined. In the electronic version of this manual, they are also hyperlinks. Example: See the Conventions section of this manual.
